Book reviews

This is an excellent book for all adult women over the age of 50 years. Dr. Osisioma provides personal experiences to help other women to live gracefully as they advance in age. The book is easy to read and understand. For me, there are two important takeaways in this book: (a) wellness lifestyle is an individual journey that requires individual to listen to their own body; and (b) each person must take their health concerns in their own hands. Specifically, the book outlines the crucial role that intermittent fasting can play in restoring good health as women grow old. I warmly recommend this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is very reader friendly and quite explanatory. It is one thing to state a problem but providing answers and solutions to the problems is quite commendable which is one thing this book did excellently well. Not only did I learn about the benefits of intermittent fasting but also the science behind it, its relationship to our gut health, how to reset our metabolism and many myths about fasting that I had believed over the years. After reading this book, there should be no excuse not to embark on a healthier lifestyle because it is all encompassing of vital information, knowledge and skills needed to improve our overall health. In addition to intermittent fasting, the writer also stressed the importance of exercising and self-care which gave me the opportunity to reflect on my own life. I can’t wait to share this book with friends and family. I’m thinking it will be a great Christmas gift to many.

I never thought in my wildest imagination that Intermittent Fasting would be this easy to do. I have heard so much about it but I have lacked the courage to try it out because I imagined that skipping meals would be very difficult to do. I like the simplistic way Dr. Irene Osisioma presented it in her book. She made it very easy and attractive. Now, I have the courage to jump right into it because I need it for my health and wellness! I encourage every woman to buy this book!

When I first heard of Intermittent fasting, I quickly dismissed it as one of those unenjoyable, tiresome, and difficult-to-achieve weight-loss fads that would soon pass away like others before it. Some people even equated it to simply One-Meal-a-Day OMAD) diet, which threw me off completely. However, when I saw Dr. Osisioma’s book on the subject and the presentation of all the science, research, and testimonials on the positive results of intermittent fasting, I excitedly bought it and began reading it immediately. The book clarified what OMAD is and reminded me that the idea of our first meal of the day being called ‘breakfast’ indicates that we are all created with the capacity to fast to our benefit. We only need to find intermittent fasting method(s) that would work for us. I am still reading the book. I will post an updated review when I am done.

What I liked most about this book was how engaging it was. This is because I felt as though the content was written for me. I have always struggled with weight ever since I was in high school. The information is presented in a very non-academic manner, and it’s easy to understand what intermittent fasting is all about. The story-like format makes the reader want to keep reading to know what else the author has discussed. More importantly, I am more likely to try intermittent fasting now that I understand what it is and how beneficial it can be to me as one who has been fighting fibromyalgia for a long time and was told that there’s no cure for the condition.

This book is an easy read, packed with comprehensive information about healthy living. It creatively weaves the links between food, exercise, mental health, and health improvement. It also gives readers factual information to support them through their intermittent fasting journey. It reminds us of the science behind good nutrition choices. By the way, everyone would benefit from reading it, not just for those in their 50s and over but for anyone who wants to take responsibility for their health.
